Rest. To relax, refresh, recover one’s strength. Rest. Something I’ve not had much of this week. In fact, I was so completely exhausted, I felt sick to my stomach and my head was pounding by 7:30pm. We all need rest.
This week, we visited family and my baby, Justus, is not sleeping at night. My sweet little Justus really likes sleeping in his room and in his bed. And what had worked for my other 2 boys when we traveled does NOT work for Justus. And so, we partied all night long, every night. Both of us living on a few hours of shut eye at night and a nap or two during the day.
Then we tried something new. And as I went to bed, curled up in the fetal position feeling like death, I prayed and pleaded with the Lord that my littlest would sleep all because I needed rest. I was desperate. And the Lord heard my cry–both my baby and I slept all night. And then my sister-in-law showed me this verse. How true it is.
” Truly my soul finds rest in God;
my salvation comes from him.
Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.” (Psalm 62:1-2)
If you need rest, pray this psalm and trust in Him for the rest you need. And I need to remember this promise, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” (Exodus 33:14) I need to hide that one in my heart and remember it especially when I travel with my little ones.
May we all find rest in God today.
